Mr Wheatley graduated from Birmingham University in 1991. Following clinical attachments in surgical specialities, he trained in Ear, Nose and Throat surgery in Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester. A fellowship year in Melbourne, Australia saw Mr Wheatley specialising in facial plastic surgery and head and neck cancer at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.

In 2002, he was awarded the CCST – Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training – and became a Consultant Surgeon in Cheltenham and Gloucester. Mr Wheatley is listed on the GMC specialist register for ENT surgery and is a member of the British Association of Otolaryngologists/Head and Neck Surgeons and the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgeons. He also holds an NHS appointment at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is a consultant at the Winfield Hospital, Gloucester and the Nuffield Hospital, Cheltenham.
