After Surgery

After Nose Surgery

The operation is usually performed under a general anaesthetic, and normally you stay in hospital for one night.

You will normally have a dressing on the outside of your nose which will stay in place for a week to 10 days.

You will probably have some bruising around your eyes.

Some patients may be given antibiotics.

The dressing is removed in clinic about one week later. At this stage the nose will still be swollen, and the final result won’t be visible.

You will require two weeks off work.

The operation isn’t too painful but the nose will be tender to touch. Simple painkillers such as paracetamol are usually sufficient for the pain. Your nose will be blocked for up to 6 weeks after surgery.

At discharge from the hospital you will be given a contact number to use should you have any problems.

The final result from Rhinoplasty often isn’t visible for up to 6-9 months after surgery. This is especially true for work on the tip of the nose.
